Prototypical Midwestern roots-rockers, the Rainmakers ironically achieved their greatest commercial success overseas, despite generally good reviews in their homeland. Their self-titled official debut was released in 1986, producing the British Top 20 hit “Let My People Go-Go” and quite a bit of good press both at home and abroad. The band embarked on a relentless touring schedule and found an unlikely fan in horror writer Stephen King, who quoted the band’s lyrics in two of his books.
The Rainmakers return after 14 years with a true return to form: traditional rock n ‘roll about all the non-traditional subjects – politics, turpentine, religion, friendship, delivering newspapers, dying, dogs, driving in the snow, going down swinging, and one about girls. Sense of humor intact, and sense of heartbreak within reach, the Rainmakers deliver it all with meat-and-beer guitars and drums. And a little piano. Original members Bob Walkenhorst, Pat Tomek, and Rich Ruth are joined by Jeff Porter on guitar and piano. Worth waiting for.
